Programme Of Events For May 2008 - April 2009

Magictales – The Lecture. Storytelling & magic combined, based on the book The Definitive Book on Storytelling Magic.

Cambridge’s Magic Club perform for NMC just as we did for them last year. Partners etc. are very welcome.

This year we have arranged for an audience of real children to respond to competitors' effects. Namely, the St. Mary’s Rainbows, Brownies & Guides at St. Mary’s Church Hall, Far Cotton. These will be a very lively crowd of 5 to 13 year olds to entertain. Currently, the Pip Ayris Trophy for Children's Entertainment is held by Steve Dimmer.

‘The David Nixon Story’, clips and anecdotes about one of the pioneers of T.V. Magic. Steve Short is the relatively new owner of Magic Books by Post.

A chance for friendly rivalry as three established clubs show off their magical knowledge.

Venue: The Pentacle Club, Cambridge

Magic for All Occasions. One of the back-room boys of magic and a very experienced full-time professional demonstrates original effects you will use.

Venue: The Quality Hotel Garden

A top comedy magician/dealer, TV star and stage performer delivers a pot-pourri of magical ideas.

A South African magician with a lecture on how to add more impact to your performance plus personalised routines.

Both of these competitions will be held on the one night again, albeit as separate competitions. This is therefore your chance to prove that you are more mental than the rest of the members and/or more original. Current holders of the trophies are Mick Hanzlik & Steve Dimmer

Christmas Magic for Children. A special lecture by this revered American entertainer just in time for the Christmas period.

Note that this is an extra meeting.

Quick, Easy & Impressive Balloons. Award-winning balloon modeler shares his expertise

Two NMC members, Chris Cullen and David Miller, share their favorite effects and routines.

Our annual competition for non-close-up magic, with trophies currently held by Malcolm Chase, Kevin Burke and Roscoe Birchmore.

An informal pre-Christmas get-together. Further details to be advised.

Our only in-house workshop meeting of the year. A chance for all members to show their favourite coin routines and discuss moves, etc.

This well-respected magical journalist, editor of Abracadabra and Club 21, demonstrates some of his ingenious inventions.

The year finishes with the "business" meeting. Members Only.
