NMC Membership Rules

1. |
Name The Club shall be called "The Northamptonshire Magicians’ Club". |

2. |
Objects To endeavour to foster among its members a helpful interest in all things magical, to try at all times to improve the standard of magic, and to organise Social Functions and Nights of Magic. |

Subscriptions shall be decided from time to time at the Annual General Meeting of the Club. Any member whose subscription remains unpaid one month beyond the due date shall be formally requested in writing to make immediate payment. Any member whose subscription remains unpaid for a further month shall cease to be a member. However, at the discretion of the Committee, the member may be re-admitted upon repayment of the current fixed joining fee. |

Officers The management of the Club shall be vested in an Executive consisting of President, Secretary, Treasurer and up to three Committee members. A President Elect or a Chairman, or both, may be elected, but the Executive shall not comprise more than six members who shall be elected annually at the Annual General Meeting. |

Duty of Secretary The Secretary shall attend all meetings of the Executive and the General Meetings (or find a substitute in emergency) and record all the secretarial business of the Club. |

6. |
Duty of Treasurer The Treasurer shall keep a record of all monies paid into the Club, together with all disbursements, these accounts being audited annually by the Hon. Auditor. |

7. |
Auditor An Auditor will be appointed annually to audit the accounts. |

8. |
Club Activities Club activities shall be arranged by the Committee. For the purpose of discharging this function, the Committee may appoint a Programme Organiser or Sub-Committee drawn from the Club Membership. |

Membership Membership is open to any person interested in Magic and who is prepared to contribute his share in the general knowledge, welfare or entertainment of the Club. All applications for membership should be proposed and seconded by members of the Club. Unless otherwise decided by the Committee, all prospective members shall be introduced at a Club meeting and perform an audition before all members present. Nominated Club members will be asked to judge each applicant on a number of categories, such as Conjuring Ability, General Presentation & Routining, and Dress, Style & Personality. A new member will only be elected if the judges are satisfied that the applicant performs to the required standard. Upon successful completion of an audition, a fixed joining fee, of an amount to be agreed by the Club at an AGM or EGM, may be charged in addition to the annual membership fee, which may be charged on a pro-rata basis depending on when the new member is inducted. The Committee have the opportunity, where they see fit, to offer Newsletter Only membership. Junior members are those aged 16 and under, and pay a subscription which will be decided at the Annual General Meeting. At any meeting so designated by the Committee warranting such action, a visitor’s fee will be charged. |

Change of Address Any member changing his address shall notify the Secretary in writing within fourteen days of such alteration. |

11. |
Ethics Members shall solemnly promise that they will not divulge the secret or working of any effect to anyone not connected to a Magical Organisation, neither will they copy nor use any performer’s original patter, effect or presentation unless permission from the said originator be obtained. To guard against accidental exposure, they will not present in public any effect that has not been fully practised and mastered, thereby endeavouring to maintain the highest possible standard for the Club and for magic generally. |

Meeting Place Meetings of the Club will be in accordance with the programme (or otherwise, as the Committee may decide) at a time and a place as arranged by the Committee from time to time. Any major changes from the practice of meeting twice per month shall be placed before the members at the Annual General Meeting. |

13. |
Executive Powers The Executive shall have the power to refuse any member’s subscription shall it be deemed advisable in the interests of the Club to do so. The member in question will have the opportunity of appearing before the Committee if he or she wishes. |

14. |
Rule Changes Any alteration to these Rules can be made at an Annual General Meeting or an Extraordinary General Meeting convened for this purpose. Such notice of intended alterations must be given to the Secretary in writing 28 days before the date of such meeting. |

15. |
Dissolution / Suspension Should it ever be necessary to dissolve or suspend the Club, such dissolution or suspension shall not be effective unless a resolution to that effect shall be carried at a General Meeting convened for the purpose by a majority of two-thirds of the members then present. |

16. |
Annual General Meeting The Annual General Meeting of the Club shall be held at a date to be arranged by the Committee. The meeting shall generally be notified to members at the previous Annual General Meeting or not less than 28 days before the date chosen. |
